 Risk management education is the centerpiece of loss control
efforts. However, it is limited by the fact that most of the existing ideas
and materials have been developed by non-physicians, many of who have little
to no legal training. Although well intentioned, the resulting products
are often impractical at the bedside and result in minimal educational
impact.
The physician audience demands a scientifically sound, legally accurate,
and clinically relevant message. And, like anyone else, physicians want
to hear the message from someone who has actual experience. Dr. Cotton
has been in the exam room and the courtroom; he has given more than 2000
medical-legal presentations to physicians; and, he has drawn from all of
his experiences to create educational materials to which physicians can
relate.
